Apartment dwellers, please tell me of your experience with internet and especially wifi in apartment buildings.
Is this what I should expect due to where I live?
2 years ago, I moved into a south-facing apartment in a 20 story building downtown Edmonton. In the past two months, I've had trouble with inconsistent internet and wi-fi signals. Streaming video drops out 2 or more times a day and my HDPVR shuts off and goes blank. The service provider
offers no real solutions so I am turning to city-data for ideas.
I am really at wits end. There are only two providers Shaw and Telus.
Is satellite a better option?
Note: the last time I lived in an apartment, wi-fi was not yet invented for public use so that is why I don't know things the younger generations already do.
All I can think of is that you are obviously in a concrete building. They DO and Will interrupt reception of all types. Even Cell phones. You could try Bell although I am not sure that changing providers will help in your situation.
Your router, is it in a corner or is it in the middle of the apt. You want it someplace that will be free of signal obstruction. Concrete buildings make it hard for radio waves to get through sometimes so the closer to the outer wall you put it is probably the best. I hope this help you figure it out.
Happy New Year...
Yes Nikki66, I did fix it. I cancelled my account with Shaw and changed to Telus ad since then no problems.
