California Teacher Lowers Students’ Grades for Saying God Bless You | Video | TheBlaze.com

Naturally this happened in California. Student sneezed. Another student said god bless you. Teacher punishes student by deducting 25 points. Parents objected and the school backed the parents and student. In the video he even admitted he did this so don't bash on the source.

I am not a fan of religions (especially the dominant one in this country), but that is a load of bunk. I'm glad they stood up against this nonsense.

It was not because of what the student said. They got in trouble for talking, period. It seems the students were being disruptive by "fake sneezing" and overly dramatic replies. Yes, I will question the source OP and I'm happy I did.

Teacher Steve Cuckovich docked his students scores if after they said "bless you" in the middle of class. He says talking of any kind is disruptive and takes time away from class.

Yep, good excuse. IF they were faking it as you claim, thenthat tells me he'd already spoken to the students about saying "god bless you" when someone sneezed and that he didn't want to hear it in his classroom out of a hatred towards religion.

Oh, and your link only validates my initial link except to provide a "possible" excuse not acknowledged by neither the parents nor the teacher.

The administration said the kids were faking it and being overly dramatic, causing a stir in the classroom. The teacher himself said that talking is an interruption.

No, the administration said that is what they found in their investigation.

From the administration's statement:

Quote:
"It was brought to the District’s attention a few days ago that students were disciplined for beingdisruptive in class. The teacher believed that students were dramatically sneezing and responding inrepetitive fashion “Bless You”.

So the kids figured out a way to disrupt class - loud sneezes and then the obligatory "bless you," just as loud - thinking, hey, we can't get in trouble for saying "god bless you. what are you, anti-religious?? ha ha ha..." Then it turns out they are actually right, and lots of Americans are just as dumb and ignorant as the students hoped the teacher would be. So sad....
