As far as getting outdoors and playing games during recess, I think some people may not be ardent supporters of that because of the attitudes some other adults have concerning competitive activities. Some common examples would be "win at any cost" or "if you're in second place you're pond scum" and other similar destructive attitudes. Even as someone into sports, I find those attitudes semi-insane and not what sports aresupposed to be about i.e. fun, exercise and also learning about one's limits (physical AND mental), and respect for others and honor among other important personal attributes.
But I also don't belong to the opposite end of the competitive spectrum: for example, I am NOT a supporter of the belief that score should not be kept in a game. It may not be politically-correct to say so, but life does present a person with many situations where they need to know whether or not they are doing well in X situation - if they don't know, how will they know they need to improve? Because even if you're not "into" money or material things, you still at least need a roof over your head, food and a bar of soap, and to get those things requires a certain of minimum of action on your part.
