I'm sure it varies greatly from district to district, but at what point to schools currently start making kids/teens repeat grades or go to summer school? I know what things used to be like when I was in school but I'm interested in the currant situation. I know in the younger grades kids tend to be pushed along, but at some point they must have to repeat, right? Do kids repeat 7th or 8th grade? Or only years/subjects in high school?

We have summer school in our district but as far as failing or holding kids back we almost never do that. We have junior high and high school kids who can barely read and write but they are still passed along.
