Yeah – Frisco by the bay. The land of leftist harmony and racial tolerance. 77 percent of suspensions for “will defiance” shows up in the San Francisco School District.
District data obtained by Public Counsel, the country's largest pro bono legal group, and community organizers in San Francisco show that African-American students represented only 8 percent of the city's public high school kids last school year. Yet 50 percent of high school students suspended for misbehavior labeled "willful defiance” were black.
Only 8 percent? That sounds really low for a major city. I admit I've never been there, but is that really true? Here in the Northeast the whites are now a minority in most major cities.
With something as vague as "willful defiance" -- something I've never heard of before -- teachers and administrators will have a LOT of leeway as to meting out punishments, and no doubt some of them will fall back on their prejudices when making those decisions. It's far better to have the punishment for most infractions, and their consequences, spelled out clearly so that the potential for unequal and questionable punishment would be sharply reduced.

The stat of 8% of the kids getting 50% of the detentions, correlated by race, makes it seem like San Francisco is a racist city, or at least that the public school teachers there are racist.
I just looked up the demographics and indeed only 6.1% of the city's population is African-American while 48.1% is white and 33.3% is Asian.
