Our school is completely unsafe. Anyone can walk into any classroom they choose with no interference at all. Other than sending emails to parents stating that the school is committed to the safety of students, nothing is being done.
Should I talk about possible ways to increase the safety of the kids with the principle? The district? PTO? Are there any minimum regulations that the school should adhere to?
Go to your monthly board meetings. Tell them if something isn't done you will do whatever possible to vote out all current board members.
Bullying does not lead to psychosis. If we are going to make the claim that the people who do mass shooting are psychotic, than you cannot blame students who bully for causing their psychosis.
This is just wrong. It blames the victims for *allowing* the shooter because he was bullied. He may or may not have been bullied and you don't know if the kids at the school were kind in the first place.
Kindness should be practiced, but that does not mean we don't also need gun control.
Personally, I don't understand why anyone *needs* a semi-automatic rifle. I understand farmers and hunters needing normal pistols and rifles, but the semi-automatics are military weapons meant for killing humans at a high rate of speed. Guns should be regulated just as automobiles are. You should need to get a license and pass a safety test to own them and certain kinds of guns should be outlawed as they are in Australia.
Background checks need to be universal including online and at gun shows. Mental health services need to be easily available as well.
