I probably fall somewhere in the middle. I've met people who are very smart and I've met people that make me wonder "How did you get yourself out of bed this morning?"

A lot of what I see is a lack of common sense. You can have all of the "book smarts" you want, but if you are walking around in flip flops and short shorts when it's 10 degrees, then people are not going to think highly of your intelligence. The same thing goes for someone who has "street smarts", but is lacking in the ability to count change.

Wow!

Two quotes in my post. A statement by me.

Both quoted posters took my statement completely backwards.

LMAO!

I loved the "We're getting off track, here's the original post" post.

As if it wouldn't happen. How boring would this thread be if we didn't get off track? 20 posts and dead....

Maybe there was something wrong with the statement not the readers.

I think it is too hard to really answer. There are so many different types of "smartness". I am fairly well educated as far as schooling goes (masters degree) and make a great financial wage for my ability but lack the common sense, social skills and ability to survive in the woods if necessary that my hubby who has a high school education does. I don't really think I can answer. I guess I'd day I'm right in the middle with half smarter and half dumber. Really the older I get the "dumber" I realize I am. Also, as I get older I realize how dumb I was when I was younger and at the time I thought I was smart.

I'm sure other posts alluded to this, but the first thought that comes to mind is Lake Wobegon, where everyone claims to be above average.

Whether by design or accident, this poll was not only about our hubris, but about our temerity to think that others have no choice but to agree with our self-assessment.

While I can teach a few things to people here and there, I am almost always humbled on a daily basis. One never stops learning from others, including those who would never consider themselves teachers.

I would say I'm above average in terms of intelligence. When a person stops learning, or thinks learning in is a dead end, he does a great disservice to himself (or herself).

This is the blue ribbon winner of the day. Could you imagine how boring this place would be if we stayed on track with every post? *yawn*, I wouldn't be here.

My guess is that most people who have contributed their intelligence to the poll are most likely in the top 50%, but I highly doubt most are in the top 25%, much less the top 5%.

First of all, you have to ask yourself: Since I am so highly intelligent, why am I spending so much time on CD answering to the woes of so many other highly intelligent people? Don't I have anything better to do with my intelligence and time?
