NYC: Where can I find an inexpensive school for beginner Spanish or Spanish 101?

So far I've tried Baruch and Hunter seem to be the cheapest. It starts out at 250 then with all the books and fees comes to about 475. Anyone know a cheaper alternative in NYC?

Default Learn Spanish by watching TV

I'm teaching myself Spanish by watching Spanish telenovelas (soap opera). Some have closed captioning in both English and Spanish... for instance CC1 in English and CC3 in Spanish.... most only have Spanish closed captioning and that's ok too. One I found has only English on CC1.

I find my Spanish comprehension is increasing in leaps and bounds and I'm learning Spanish the same way I learned English as a toddler.... I can comprehend written best, and spoken Spanish next best, and my speaking ability is slower off the cuff.

Regardless, I'm way ahead of my HS Spanish way back in the dark ages.

I bought a Spanish/English dictionary, the verb forms book and found a couple interesting daytime shows that I record and watch daily.

I am also teaching myself spanish, I went to the book store and bought a cd class (40.00) it has a book and CD that I work with.

Put your television on the Spanish Station, put your radio on Spanish, and try some interactive web sites...

I just glanced at this but it looks great - check out the links.

Best Spanish Web Sites

Dont pay for interactive web sites you can find them for free!

I think there enough here that speak Spanish. I am willing to teach little by little in this forum for starters.

You have a great day.

Many libraries have Spanish language audiobooks. The one I work in has the Pimsleur series, which is very helpful. I would suggest posting on the NYC forum for local suggestions: http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-york-city/

I'm starting basic french on livemocha. They have spanish too, and it's free. You can chat and talk with other students, or ask them to correct your exercises, etc.

A private Spanish tutor is a good option. If you need one in the NYC area, I can put you in contact with a few good ones. If you are interested please contact me directly.
