I guess now that Western Playland isn't there anymore, some people are very interested in putting in all sorts of nice stuff on that property. One of those people is city Rep. Jose Alexandro Lozano. (???)

I never thought Lozano would be one of these people that actually envisioned something nice for El Paso, since he votes against almost anything that is positive for this city.

A private group that includes Lozano, hopes the County Commissioners Court will consider allowing it to manage Ascarate Park and begin an overhaul that would or could include a marina, Mississippi river boat, hotel, boardwalk, fishing piers, improved golf course, IMAX Theater, Insights Museum, fiesta grounds, miniature golf course, skate park, a new Patriots soccer stadium, senior and youth centers, and various athletic fields.

Here are pictures of what they plan to build at Ascarate Park:

An artist's rendering of the proposed hotels and convention center at Ascarate Park that would include an exhibition hall, a water park and RV and general parking.

Proposed soccer stadium, youth recreation center and senior citizens center at Ascarate.

Proposed Ascarate "Frontier Village," featuring restaurants, shops, art gallery, boat dock and concert grounds.

Proposed entrance to Ascarate Recreational Resort, with marina and boat rentals.

Proposed Delta Course, an 18-hole golf course.

Yes county commissioners (DO SOMETHING RIGHT FOR A CHANGE) this is spectacular for El Paso, man they want to more than double the size of the lake, I never thought this subject would re emerged since it was once talked about dredging the lake to make it deeper but now they are going to make it even better, GO FOR IT COMMISSIONERS, El Pasoans more than desreve this long and over due extravegant project.
Thanks Chuco for posting these pictures, I can dream about them all day and night.

The idea itself looks great......I am a little disappointed in the location. That area is not the nicest part of town. People from out of town won't get the best impression.

Well the lake is already there, half of it that is, and western playland operated out of the same spot since the early 60's regardless if that part of town is nice or not, it's not all that bad as it might seem to some.
this park is the people's of El Paso and all those that want to come and join in on the fun, if El Paso is going to change for the better, then this is defitnately the right road to making it happen.

Time will tell what really becomes of all this, knowing the county they'll mess up this this opportunity as well, remember the aquatic park?
eventually they install some swings and a slide along with a lawn sprinkler system and call it a water park.
