Does anyone else remember KPAS, I think it was FM 104 on the "dial"! It used to be an AOR (Album Oriented Rock) station, and they used to play whole sides of LPs from the bands of the day, Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Yes, etc. They used to go off the air after midnight, a lot of stations did back then.

How long ago was this, was it in the last decade? Because about 4 or 5 years ago long after the Q stopped, more or less playing the majority of the classic rock & college rock it used to play, this other station like 99.1 I think was channel on the radio, started to play this kind of music. Was this the station?

HA! This shows our age differences. I just became a teenager at the end of the 70's and was influenced in my taste of music by my older brother who also used to take me to concerts with him if he had no one to go with. I think it was one of the first FM, and first rock station for a while, but it went silent after midnight during the week, I think it stayed on longer on the weekends.

One thing I distinctly remember of the station is that after the end of an album side, all the music would stop, then the great sounding FM voice would come on say 'KPAS 104... the PASS'. They never talked over music, or mixed them for transition as they do now.

Also foreign to many here was the hiss, and pops of the records back then! I know I am twisted, but I actually think it sounds great now. There is something nastalgic about that distinct noise which comes from vinyl while the music plays softly.

Yeah, I would've just been beginning elementary school in the late 70's, but I do remember the "hiss & pops" of records back then. I associate that sound w/ a sense of positive anticipation as the beginning of something good w/a rustic flair!

KPAS-The Pass 94.1 I used to listen to it quite a bit. I preferred it over the Q. When they closed their doors, I even attended the last KPAS party at a bar which I believe was called the Cotton Patch, which is where the Ysleta SISD is now. Both the radio station and the bar are a long time gone.

always good music in Austin. As far as ELP goes...I've missed Chevelle every time they have a show...and the edm scene seems to have grown a lot the last few years as well. I really want to see Above and Beyond and Knife Party this weekend but I'm not sure I can make it. Anyone else headed to SCMF?
