It would be fantastic, Harry, but I can't see them in a place this small. They are only in Texas and Mexico at this point.

That's great for El Paso. For years, they've had Albertson's and Big 8 Foods, but this is a welcome change. And I am surprised that United didn't enter that market years ago. With Albertson's trying to pull out of Texas eventually, another chain would definitely work here.

Considering that both Midland and Odessa had locations before they hit the 100K mark (as well as Big Spring and other locations, too) I don't know!!

You would think that if Midland has had one for 5 years+, and is barely at 100K, El Paso would be a shoo-in.

The email that I got back from them a few months ago indicated that they had no plans for one in EP because the distribution center just wasn't there.

What made them change their minds...and at least consider it...I have no idea!!

BUT...I hope they build a big Central Market type store!! Those are to die for!!

I see what your saying now Cathy....as they are not a western grocery store chain. Kinda like Winn Dixie grocery stores are in in Florida and southern states only.

Yes. To even go as far west as Midland was a big deal for them.

Odessa was the second one farther west...and that was as far as they have gone in this direction to this point.

A Central Market for EP would be awesome.

Military increase.. and we have plenty of space and empty places they could put a new distribution center.. that could not only expand them here, but further on in the future as well. Besides we have a cheep labor base, and that could be beneficial for the company in the long run.

I heard about HEB wanting to expand here years ago, but the logistics held them up-El Paso's just way too far from everything else, i.e. their supply chain.

But that'd be great. I'd rather give my money to a Texas business than a big multinational.

I live in San Antonio and I love HEB. Excellent prices and variety. Great corporate citizens as well.

I love El Paso and I miss it so much. I was very disappointed when I got there and there were no H.E.B.'s. Now I hear they might open one there. Guess I'll be moving back...
