Former UTEP football star, Philadelphia Eagle Quintin Demps earns degree to set example for kids

When pro athletes return to college to finish work toward a diploma, they usually cite their parents as motivation.

Former UTEP football star and current Philadelphia Eagle Quintin Demps went the other direction after he finished off the last 15 hours toward his Multidisciplinary Studies degree this spring.

"It was important for me to set a good example for my kids," said Demps, who graduates from UTEP on Saturday, though he isn't coming in for the ceremony. "This is very exciting, I'm very blessed. A lot of work went into this and I'm excited I've finally graduated."

Demps has two children and now has a wife, as he married his high school sweetheart, Crystal, this summer, putting him in a good frame of mind heading into the third season of his pro career.

The degree puts a cap on an awfully busy offseason Demps finished his college work at Temple University in Philadelphia.

"It wasn't that tough until the end," Demps said. "When offseason workouts started and I was going to school, it got really tough. I had loaded up on hours, all the hours I needed to graduate, just so I could graduate now. It definitely was a challenge."
