"We abandoned all that work after the election, and leaders told us we should trust them to clean things up. I don't know a single member of the Democratic caucus who saw the final rules package before they voted on it."

wow, I'll say he was being honest:
When President Obama was elected in 2008, Mr. Baird was again optimistic that Democrats could bring real reform. But fierce Republican partisanship and the White House decision not to focus on job creation as its "number one, two and three" priority dashed that hope.
Like pghquest said, we already knew this was the case, but its refreshing to hear some democrats admit it.

But somehow they manged to get a national healthcare, credit card reform, financial reform, a failed trillion dollar stimulus passed, blah blah blah, without that Republican support..
Republicans were not going failed policies.. I'm glad they didnt join in to the incompetence..

It is indeed quite refreshing, and i appreciate sincerely someone being brutally honest.

Saying NO, and then Hell NO, saved the Republican party. The spend and spend more Progressive Bush agenda had the people in a tailspin. The Progressives hit the accelerator when Bama hit the stage and the masks came off, exposing Progressives in both parties.
The people with common sense recognized it and you have candidates that are not slick lawyers and crooked salesmen career politicians.
I think a stimulus could have helped IF it had gone to the correct place(s). As soon as it was apparent to me just where Obama was going to place the stimulus, I said " I hope I'm wrong but, this isn't going to work". Damn it, I wasn't wrong. The only ones still backing this clown, has to be the ones that benefited from his 'stimulus package'. Whomever the hell that is.
Honesty now, sure isn't helping the millions of unemployed. And the people coining us as 'lazy' and/or 'at fault' are just as foolish and arrogant. Thing is, I'm highly sure we HAVE NOT seen the worst of things. (*shrugs*)
