It was probably inevitable that we'd reach this point, but Tea Party activists and social conservative activists are now talking openly about backing a Republican primary challenger against Scott Brown in 2012.
And the Tea Party's next target is ... Scott Brown?! - War Room - Salon.com

Are they planning another Christine O'Donnell or Sharron Angle type of candidate? In Massachusetts, no less?

Wasn't Scott Brown one of them originally?

They supported him in the general election, not the primary. Brown was already nominated by the time the Tea Partiers noticed the race.

Somewhat. The tea party jumped on Brown's bandwagon because they wanted to stop healthcare and wanted a Republican in Massachusetts. They pretty much ignored the fact he was a fairly moderate Republican in the Massachusetts State Senate, and then all of a sudden seemed surprised and upset that the guy they wanted, who was a moderate in the Massachusetts State Senate was also fairly moderate in the U.S Senate

The theory is that the Democrats have so many vulnerable incumbents in 2012 that the Republicans will have a Senate majority no matter what, so they want to "cleanse the party of RINOs" even if that means losing seats.

Tea Partiers are pretty crazy, there was no excuse to run Christine O'Donnell and Sharron Angle in 2010 for example. It cost them 2 seats in a Senate where every seat counts. But I can understand why they're willing to let Scott Brown go in 2012. It's still pretty stupid, but I understand it.

It does look like the Dems have more vulnerable incumbents in 2012 than the GOP, in part because they will have more freshman as a result of 2006. With that being said part of that will be determined by who is the GOP nominee. Palin or someone like that gets through, the GOP won't pick up squat in the Senate in 2012. Aside from that, someone like Brown is about as conservative you can get that could win in Massachusetts.
