I like to take a look at things from different perspectives, and have a few concerns about Ron Paul.

Ron Paul favors abolishing the Federal Reserve, which I view as a critical mistake. Their ability to impact interest rates and liqidity is important in keeping the economy from experiencing excessive swings, and has helped keep the jobless rate a tolerable levels. I can't see supporting someone who believes this institution should be abolished and replaced by the fates. He explains it in this attached proposal, and why he favors going back on the gold standard. I strongly disagree, and unlike Paul I think the Federal Reserve has not caused the economic swings, but has done an effective job of mitigating them:

Abolish the Federal Reserve (http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2002/cr091002b.htm - broken link)

He also has voted to abolish Medicare, leaving that as a state option issue (meaning it would disappear). While agreeing that the system certainly can use some changes, what is the alternative for the elderly?

Also, I understand that he wants to terminate the FDA. Has he stated a position on food inspection and drug testing prior to market acceptance?

Several weeks ago, I asked about this on another thread. No one responded. I strongly agree with what you're saying. Paul might have a good argument about going back to the gold standard IF we had the gold to back what we've printed!! Has anyone seen that buillon that's going to back the $38 billion we pumped into the economy yesterday?

I like Ron Paul -- but Hillary gets it. Hillary knows how to keep the USA alive. I have great faith in her saving our country -- well, her and Bill anyways....

I wouldn't vote for Ron Paul because he has no chance of winning. Hillary is going to win and I support her 100%.

A few of us have asked questions about Paul and his stance on the Federal Reserve, which none of the supporters have seemed to want to constructively address (see above postings).

Let me toss in a couple more issues for consideration. How does Paul see responsibility for food inspection, and validation of the effectiveness and safety for drugs, both prescription and non-prescription? How about the safety of imported products?

If he feels eduction is not a federal concern, how does he envision folks with kids being able to move to jobs in other states and their kids being able to effectively continue on with continuing instruction at their grade levels (standards for instruction by grade issue)?

Internationally, how do you address the evolution of circumstances in Iran, especially in light of his favoring termination of the UN in addition to total foreign detachment? Do we stand aside and let China take over Taiwan, do we still support Japan or may they also be a quasi-takeover target for China?

I would appreciate any insights into these issues.

Maybe I'm posting something many have already seen, but I haven't found mention of it in other threads:

Karen Kwiatkowski: Ron Paul, Iowa and the Presidency - Politics on The Huffington Post

As of this morning when I finished reading there were 101 comments; I read them all and I found them all VERY interesting.

I sure do wish he could win the nomination. What a great President he would make. And FINALLY some of the great ideas of our Founders would become mainstream knowledge--again.

I wonder: Can he surround himself with enough like-minded members of the Executive Branch to bring about real change? Are there enough of his mindset and honesty and integrity out there?

Sure there are. We just never hear from them or learn about them because they are ignored by the media who want a Hillary Clinton in the W-H. The problem is congress where if you use Paul's approach is where a lot of the change must come from. The constitution gives congress the power to basically set policy or at least approve the president's policies. This is something that hasn't been done with any great effort in years and not just during the Bush years. Anyways, unfortunately there are likely not enough people in congress who subscribe to the Paul way of governing..by means of what the constitution says.

Thank you for the attachment, are these his positions?:

No federal role for food inspection

No federal role for substantiating health care benefits for drugs

No federal role for establishing education standards

No federal role for validating safety of imported products

No federal role for foreign involvement except for attack on our shores

Immediate termination of the Federal Reserve, revert to gold standard

Terminate Social Security and Medicare

Are any of these incorrect?
