COLUMBIA, S.C. — Three months before President Obama nominated Jon M. Huntsman Jr. as ambassador to China, Mr. Huntsman arrived here to introduce himself to three dozen influential Republicans and talk politics with them over dinner at the Palmetto Club.

Huntsman is a moderate and intellectual. He isn't going to appeal to the tea party type.

You also have several candidates going for the moderate vote, Hunstman, Romney and Daniels if he runs. The Primary electorate for the GOP is VERY conservative, of the three of them the only one I think has a chance of winning a Primary is Romney due to his name recognition advantage. Its going to be quite difficult for Hunstman and Daniels to make a name for themselves with the GOP electorate.

They elected McCain in 2008.
Tea Party members want to win in 2012, it's not Nevada...They like Pawlenty, and this guy is moderate

Pawlenty has gone off the deep end with the Evangelical this and Evangelical that and bringing back DADT.

McCain had huge name recognition to begin with. If you appeal to the base you can probably get away with not having much name recognition, and being able to build from the base, it becomes much harder when you are a moderate without the name recognition. To top that off McCain lurched quite a bit to the right in 07 & 08. His 08 campaign was MUCH further right than his 2000 campaign.

He worked for Obama. Count me out.

"You are a remarkable leader," Huntsman wrote to Obama in August 2009, underlining the world "remarkable" for emphasis. "It has been a great honor getting to know you."

In leaked note, Jon Huntsman praised President Obama as a ‘remarkable leader’ - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20110415/ts_yblog_theticket/in-leaked-note-jon-huntsman-praised-president-obama-as-a-remarkable-leader - broken link)
That didn't mean he supports Obama's ideas, but he's honest, he says what he thinks.
