A fast burning fire quickly burns out, and all that is left is a heap of ash.

He is THE establishment candidate LOL! The donors are lining up like crazy, so they can get special privileges and tax breaks. They know it, because their buddies with awareness of Bilderberg are totally taking advantage of this opportunity. They LOVE Perry.

Boy, you sure have that wrong. The fuddy duddy GOP urban inside the beltway elitist types wouldn't have been pushing Ryan (a man with zero executive experience, a shared peer approval rating of 13 percent and a TV ad of his lookalike pushing granny off a cliff) to get into the race if Perry was one of them. Thank God, Ryan said "no." You realize that the Bill Kristol, Karl Rove, Jonah Goldberg, Charles Krauthammer, Frank Luntz types in the Republican party derive their own power/prestige from whoever is in office so they like their candidates to come from their own DC/NY circle. As news analysts they have no direct power so they need some rub off power, some "we're an insider" power. Have you forgotten them yelling at the conservatives, during the 2008 election cycle, to shut up and get behind McCain because they weren't happy that we were outspokenly unhappy with the RINO (who was loved by the NY Times before he was a presidential candidate)? They're probably crying in their wine glasses, that Perry is on top of the heap now.

They are the same ones that will probably cry at their lunch dates, "Well jeez, if it has to be a governor can't we find one in NY or Virginia to run?" Which is why, I suspect, the Pataki trial balloon was also floated. The same gods of Mt Olympus once tried to push George Allen on us until he imploded and also floated the idea of a Nanny Bloomberg (God help us all) candidacy. It has nothing to do with how good a candidate those folks are. The Beltway boys will make them sound good to us GOP rubes. As Jack Kemp once admonished us (not his exact words), just shut up, listen to us and do what we tell you to do.

Not anymore.

I get where the OP is coming from, everyone in the media rushed to spew out whatever dirt they could on Rick Perry... from disparaging the Texas economy, to gay rumors, to quoting everything they could find that he said that might make him look stupid or scary to the voters.

And in that process, inadvertently, they gave him 90% of the press coverage relating to the GOP race. Since the GOP base no longer puts any weight in what the media says (they've cried wolf too many times), it just ended up helping Perry with name recognition and splashing his photo everywhere.

So... maybe the media detractors have a plan B? Perhaps they should start slamming Romney to give him more credibility with the base. Although, Romney's toast at this point. There really aren't many moderates in the party anymore. Plus he's already lost to the loser of the 2008 presidential election; I think deep inside, that's gonna stick with any potential supporters.
