If that private company would provide safe planes, there would have been no need to cancel the contract.

The U. S. Forest Service has cancelled their contract for six large air tankers. Due to Aero Union “failing to meet its contractual obligations” their P-3 air tankers are no longer available for wildfires. In April, 2011 the company had eight P-3 air tankers that were grounded for a few days because of “issues found during aircraft inspection on one of the P-3s”.

Good move Perry. Everyone knows that Texas is not prone to wildfires...DUH!
Please go into the details of the story, what departments, their locations, and their duties specifically to the area. Be sure to also fill us in on many other aspects of the surrounding communities to which this deals with.

Whats that? It isn't listed in your propaganda story? Darn.. how convenient.

The left changed far before that. It was overtaken by radical movements Eco-facists, Socialists, Communists, and Marxists.

The republican party being slowly taken over is not a surprise, its the same garbage that took over the democrats. LOL

The contract was terminated due to a contract dispute which is because the operating company is a non-union house whereas all the others are.

Obama = failure who is letting politics destroy homes of Americans while he sits back enjoying himself. 2012 can't come fast enough, this country may not make it that long with ******* Democrats in charge.

US Forest Service Cancels Airtanker Contract with Aero Union

California company did not meet agency’s safety standards

WASHINGTON, July 29, 2011–The U.S. Forest Service announced today that it has terminated its contract with Aero Union of Sacramento, Calif., because the company failed to meet its contractual obligations. The company was providing six airtankers under exclusive-use contracts to the Forest Service.

“Our main priority is protecting and saving lives, and we can’t in good conscience maintain an aviation contract where we feel lives may be put at risk due to inadequate safety practices” said Tom Harbour, director of the Forest Service’s Fire and Aviation Management program. “This contract termination notwithstanding, we possess the aircraft support needed for this year’s fire season.”

This is how Bush's administration handled it:
Quote:
It has been nine years since two very old military surplus air tankers literally fell apart in mid air in 2002, killing five crew members, prompting the permanent grounding of about 57% of the ancient large air tankers.

I would think that your state being on fire would probably be a reason to use an emergency fund, but who knows maybe Perry is relying on his prayers for rain and holding out for the apocalypse.
If you are a random student, please go back to class and study some more. These fires around Austin began during a record drought and under conditions of constant high winds. The Bastrop area is also blessed with beautiful tall pine trees, which unfortunately are highly flammable under these conditions. Humidity right now is in the 15% range.

The Bastrop fire was essentially unstoppable until the wind relented. That didn't happen until yesterday.

I think it is extraordinary that we have just two deaths. The evacuations and other actions have been very effective saving lives.

Wildfire Today
News and commentary about wildland fire and is the "journal" of this profession.

But here is a trusted news source for you.

The Washington post pointed out in an article on Sunday that the 18 large air tankers on contract in the U.S. have an average age of about 50 years and are overdue for replacement.

The large tanker planes leased by the agency to fight such blazes have been flying, on average, about 50 years and are rapidly becoming unsafe to deploy.

Which has been known for a lot longer than 10 years. The P-3 is basically 1950's technology, the Navy used them as sub-hunters and AWACS through today. My brother flew on one in 1961 or so.

Lockheed P-3 Orion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some of the rest of the fleet are even older, in some cases WW II era.

The requirements are fairly specific: preferably propeller driven, ability to go low and slow with a high stall speed.
