In 1989 Perry proposed an Amendment to the Texas Constitution. Filed that March, the amendment called for "the automatic resignation from office of certain public officials seeking other elective office."
It required anyone serving in a position paying more than $10,000 a year to resign - actually, I believe it created an automatic resignation.

Coachegns, have you changed your mind on anything over the last 21 years?? I'm not supporting Perry for president, but, the attacks on him as well as several other of the GOP hopefuls are getting a bit ridiculous. When can we debate the real issues of the day instead of what occurred 20 plus years ago?

Freightshaker - You are correct.
I was responding to someone who asked where the OP got that from.

I prefer the "What have you done for me lately" school, BUT, sometimes one's past is reflective of how a person will behave in the future.

Why do you Pubs not do your OWN homework? He's YOUR candidate. You don't already know this?

Perry would be violating the spirit of an amendment he proposed to the Texas constitution in 1989. Filed that March, the amendment called for "the automatic resignation from office of certain public officials seeking other elective office."

Back when he wrote the amendment, Perry was a Democrat and far removed from any consideration of national office, let alone anyone's favorite in a statewide contest. He was a just state representative from west Texas. His proposed amendment failed.

"In 1989, Dem State Rep. Rick Perry believed that if a governor of Texas early in their term wanted to run for president, they should resign," says Jeff Rotkoff, a consultant with the Back to Basics PAC, a Texas political action committee.

Ummm...none of those candidates you named ever said an elected official should resign if running. Perry did.

Read the thread. Hell, just Google it. Perry supporters should already know this. It should not be up to those of us who do not support Perry to spell it out for you.

I guess that says something about his fanbase.

Glad you were able to respond when someone else asked the question. I guess many of us do not do our homework...In case you didn't realize, I was not doubting, just asking a question. I got the answer, but not from you..

Why would he, he will need a job after his failed bid at winning the GOP nomination to run for the Whitehouse.

He is not the official nominee until the primary is over. Right now he has only submitted his application and gone on a few interviews. You don't quit your job until you have a firm offer for a better one.
