guy i know at work is a huge ron paul fan. huge, voted for him in 08 and will again. knows that both parties are the same, and doesn't buy into the republican vs. democrat deal.

he is a unique guy. doesn't own a tv in his home and is planning on home schooling his kids. when asked on why he doesnt own a tv he said he went on about the power of tv and how it gets people to think certain ways, manipulation etc.

he also said he would only allow his kids to watch shows he approved of, and hated how tv depicts family these days. he said he would've been fine with shows like the cosby show, family matters, full house, shows that have a positive message, families with strong husbands, and united families.

i actually agree with him for the most part.

the cosby show would be off the air in a week in todays society, even though it had positive messages, strong husband and a united family. that message doesnt sell anymore, too bad actually.

Has your friend not seen Family Guy? That show proves that it's still possible to have a show with a strong father figure and united family.

I think of most of them as pot smokers whose only real wish is to have pot and all other drugs legal so they can pick some up more easily like at the corner store or gas station.

For most libertarians it seems all about easy drugs, not about ending all welfare, Medicaid, etc.

You obviously haven't spent much time speaking with Libertarians.

I'm always hearing supporters of Ron Paul talk about drug legalization. That's even fine with me if and only if all drug addicts were tossed off all welfare programs and not given free health care when they OD, no free rehab paid by taxpayers.

His open borders stance also bothers me -- how do we allow in millions of uneducated low skilled types who have no way to make it on their own with our very high costs of living, allow them to take any job at any wage and vote in our elections and think they won't turn around and elect socialists who promise them everything they want no matter what it costs taxpayers?

I think we talked about this before and I linked you to videos on youtube. He doesn't believe in open borders, that's what purist hardcore Libertarians believe. Ron Paul believes a fence is not the way to go, but to go after the welfare programs and force the courts to reinterpret the 14th Amendment. He thinks illegal aliens and their children should not have access to a single penny of government assistance, and he wants to phase out the welfare state. Most, if not all, libertarians also believe in phasing out the welfare state. I don't know who you've been talking to, but it definitely wasn't true Ron Paul suppoters. They probably like the man because he isn't corrupt but don't necessarily believe in his issues
