What Perry is doing is opening the dialogue to lay it on the table that what is freedom for one set is not freedom for another. The point is missed on those that want to miss it.
The point missed here is that both the Establishment clause and Free Exercise are the law of the land. Perry ignores the former, or is embarrasingly unware of it.

Have your kids go to school and say "Merry Christmas" I bet they get suspended or disciplined in some way. Have a Muslim say "Happy Ramadan" and all is fine and dandy. Also, use your head. Nobody is forbidden from celebrating Christmas, it's that they can't call it Christmas, it has to be called "The Holidays" or something to that effect.

We all pay into the public schools via property taxes, like it or not. If Laura wants to send her kid to private school, in effect she has to pay double--once thru property taxes, and second thru tuition for the private school.
Vouchers mean that everybody pays just once, then attends the school of their choice.
And in the liberal mentality that constitutes wanting 'government to pay you to go away.' Okaaayyy.

I don't think anyone said it is a right, but what is wrong with school vouchers? a school district spend X number of $s each year per student, why not let parents choose if they want their kids in public school or give the parents said amount of money and let them decide where they want their children educated?
That is exactly why he produced this ad. To be popular to the GOP base, he had to dramatically increase his rhetorical hatred. That snafu when he expressed some compassion toward the children of illegal immigrants taught him a tough lesson. The eventual Republican nominee must continually assure the bigoted GOP voters that he hates gays, non-Christians and immigrants more than any other candidate.
