Rick Santorum singled out blacks ... telling a mostly-white audience he doesn’t want to “make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money.”

When asked about the comments in a CBS interview, Santorum bizarrely referenced a documentary about the education achievement gap, 'Waiting for Superman', to explain the context.

“Yesterday I talked for example about a movie called, um, what was it? 'Waiting for Superman,’ which was about black children and so I don’t know whether it was in response and I was talking about that,” he said. (The movie actually portrays students of several races).

There had originally been some confusion about whether Santorum actually said the word “black,” which he appeared to clear up in the CBS interview by acknowledging that was in fact the statement he made.

(The candidate seemed to think better of his words mid-sentence, so the line comes across garbled.)

When a Ron Paul staffer makes a less 'racist' remark 20 years ago, the media is all over Paul calling him a racist today. Why doesn't Santorum get this treatment - he is the one who made the remark.

All of these guys continually shoot thenselvers in the foot. Obviously this election is not about electing the best man but rather for the least stupid one.

Wow... this is why America sucks...

People take what they read and RUN with it.

Ron Paul says the EXACT same things. But what does he mean?

He says "I don't want to help the poor and minority demographic with entitlements because it creates dependency"

And he is right it is counter-intuitive in the long run. What he says it he wants to create an environment that is conducive to self-help. If you can instill values of self reliance how is that NOT a good thing? Pro-Black public speakers and figureheads preach this ALL THE TIME.

The 'most electable' candidate is the one who can most effectively manipulate the dim-witted American public. G W Bush did it masterfully, and I thouht Rick Perry was the closest to Bush in substance, but he let his stupidity out of the bag too quickly.

There is a difference when you are runinng for president and you single out one group among many. Black figureheads are speaking to black people, rick is in a sense blaming blacks for using the same entitlements that everyone uses and demonizing them

Fair enough but it is all in context.... did he single out blacks on his own accord?

Or was he asked explicitly what he wants to achieve for the black community...that would warrant the focus.
