Seriously ... I know poll numbers can be comforting to some. But Obama hasn't even begun to campaign yet while the GOP primaries are in full swing and Obama is the favorite target. Lets see what the numbers are a couple of weeks before voting. That will be far more telling.
It hasn't exactly been a good campaign cycle for the GOP in regards to females. These #'s perhaps reflect some female economic frustration when it comes to pres obama but they don't necessarily reflect wide feminine support for the GOP either...
You gotta have an approval rating above 52% to get a second go-round.
Bummer is stuck at 44% (Gallup).
That would normally be true.
What's missing in your analysis is that other politicians' approval ratings are even worse than "O'bummer's" (lol). In fact, only a mere 23 percent -- an all-time low number for any party in congress -- approve of republicans in congress. Not too good if you're trying to sell people on the idea that republicans should have control of the executive branch, too.

The GOP candidates are going to lose female support, and if they nominate Santorum, they will have NO female support. Romney at least gives them a fighting chance to hold on to women voters. But either way, women are disgusted by the republicans right now.
People dig to find anything negative about the female vote because the reality is the Conservatives are going to struggle to win over the women vote thanks to Rick. The more they talk contraception, vaginal ultra sounds, ect. it's only going to hurt the Right.

And when the president runs for reelection against the Congress, the relative popularity of Congress will matter.
No, in 2012 Bummer, with his approval rating far below the reelectability threshold, will face a single Republican presidential candidate.
Also keep in mind the 80/20 rule.
Undecided voters always break in favor of the challenger 80/20.
That's why Bummer worked so hard to run against Bush as though he were in the contest (see McSame).
That trick won't work twice.
And for those of you taking notes, unless he or she is wildly popular, try not to run a previous VP for president (see Gore 2000, Mondale 1984, Ford 1976, Humphrey 1968, Nixon 1960, etc.) since they are associated with the previous administration and also fall victim to the 80/20 rule.
