How do you compete with people who steal from the Treasury and offer plates of our $100 dollar bills in exchange for a blind vote?

Go talk being self reliant and fiscally conservative with some voters that are on the take.

Problem now is the whole country is beyond broke and the road they used to kick this can down isn now a cliff.

We need to make government unions and Democrats extinct to get the country solvent again.
Really? Unions again? What is the percentage of the workforce of America that is union? Not very much.

There's the new GOP for you, exactly what the OP was talking about.

We were part of the Goldwater revolution as well, then followed by Reagan. I don't think people, including you, really realize much is still part of the GOP but times have changed so much. We have to consider who has controlled the houses much of the past 40 years for starters.

Regardless, that is insane, well, I don't really mean insane, but it is hard to imagine any group giving that much money. The Republican party is still, in many ways, what it has always been. A few right wing zealist haven't changed alll of us and the Democrats are what they have always been, give me everything you got and I will try not to hurt you. This goes for many unions as well.

Once again, this is simply wishful thinking on the part of democrats. In the last national election in November 2010, the Republicans won in a landslide of historic proportions. Republicans gained 60 seats in the House. Just a little reminder:

After GOP landslide of Election 2010, what next for Obama? - CSMonitor.com

Although there is a lot of spin out there by Obama supporters about his leading Romney in head to head polls, other polls show that large numbers of voters do not have any confidence in Obama's policies:

The Hill Poll: Voter gloom over Obama

And about those head to head polls with Romney, I wouldn't be too confident about polls that basically show him within the statistical margin of error with Romney when Romney is still in a fight with Santorum.

I hear you. It will do everyone good to read some of Goldwater's quotes. He was a prescient man.

Quote:
"There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of 'conservatism.'" - Barry Goldwater
Quote:
"I don't have any respect for the Religious Right. There is no place in this country for practicing religion in politics. That goes for Falwell, Robertson and all the rest of these political preachers. They are a detriment to the country." - Barry Goldwater
Quote:
"A lot of so-called conservatives don't know what the word means. They think I've turned liberal because I believe a woman has a right to an abortion. That's a decision that's up to the pregnant woman, not up to the pope or some do-gooders or the Religious Right." - Barry Goldwater
Quote:
"If they succeed in establishing religion as a basic Republican Party tenet, they could do us in. When you say 'radical right' today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye." - Barry Goldwater
Quote:
"Well, I've spent quite a number of years carrying the flag of the 'Old Conservatism.' And I can say with conviction that the religious issues of these groups have little or nothing to do with conservative or liberal politics. The uncompromising position of these groups is a divisive element that could tear apart the very spirit of our representative system, if they gain sufficient strength." - Barry Goldwater
Quote:
"The religious factions will go on imposing their will on others, unless the decent people connected to them recognize that religion has no place in public policy. They must learn to make their views known without trying to make their views the only alternatives. . . We have succeeded for 205 years in keeping the affairs of state separate from the uncompromising idealism of religious groups and we mustn't stop now. To retreat from that separation would violate the principles of conservatism and the values upon which the framers built this democratic republic." - Barry Goldwater

Ignore the guy at your peril (and to my delight).

Moderates are getting fed up with the jingoism, stupidity, and false piety of the far right. With good reason. It is no liberal plot, those approaches are idiotic and hypocritical, and anyone who has not drank the koolaid can see it.
