brief summary of Mass. prez. voting here:

Massachusetts Presidential Election Voting History

Since 1928 Mass. has gone for the R candidate four times--twice for Ike, and twice for Reagan (surprising to me).

The home state question is interesting but a better question is: have R candidates in recent years won the presidency while losing Mass? The answer is yes of course HW Bush did it once and W twice.

true, and Mass. was the only state to go for far-left McGovern over Nixon in 1972. That was 40 years ago though. BTW latest poll I see has Scott Brown up 2 pts. ove Eliz. Warren. 37-35.
