The U.S. is already trailing many other countries in education. The Republicans believe they can keep their grip on power and control if they keep dumbing down the populous while giving the rich
more tax breaks so they can increase their wealth. Here's the very short video.

The Dept. of Education is a money pit. The only "reform" I ever hear suggested by liberals is more money. Maybe we should start looking fundamentally altering the way we think about education and it's delivery in America. The DoE should be abolished because it's just not working. Education should be left to the states, local governments, and private citizens. I agree that education is very important and every child in America deserves a shot at a decent education but federal overreach into education is simply not the answer.

Then again taking money out of the schools and giving it to corporate fatcats isn't exactly any better.

There are many kids who would not be able to go to college if it were not for government loans. Realistically the government needs to improve the edcation in America lest our slip into decline.

Well, it's been clear for a while that people who thirst for education and appreciate science, make very bad Republicans.

You lefties realize that today the Dept of Education doesn't think class size matters, don't you ?
It's quality of teachers and subject testing. Nothing in RTT has to do with class size.

That's Obama's policy today..RTT with more testing and putting the blame on teachers for kids failing.
Nothing in RTT deals with class size.

Class size is determined at a state level.

The best Republican voter is a poorly educated voter.

Well it's certainly obvious that the Dems don't know their own party's policy today.
Max class size is determined by the states.

There's a lot more to it then pure numbers. I've been in classrooms where there were 12 students but 4 adults and also in classrooms where there was a single teacher for 26 students. It's more than numbers.

New Obama ad: Romney really can’t relate to wanting the best education for your children « Hot Air

Another lie by Obama I already posted about earlier about class size.

Second, throwing money at the Department of Education, is not going to improve education. If I were in charge, that department would be abolished. It is run like crap, just like most other government programs.

the federal government just keeps throwing money at the problem. Washington has been doing that for years, but somehow, our education system miraculously fails to yield better results:
Begin with Head Start, a nearly $8 billion program that’s politically untouchable, not only because it deals with education, but it’s for preschool kids. It’s almost tailor-made for demagoguery, with anyone who’d dare trim — much less eliminate — the program practically begging to be declared a rotten so-and-so who hates even the littlest of children.
But the fact is there’s no meaningful evidence the program does any good. In fact, the most recent federal evaluation found that Head Start produces almost no lasting cognitive benefits, and its few lasting social-emotional effects include negative ones. Only the people employed by Head Start money — and the politicians who appear to “care” — are really benefiting.
This is repeated in elementary and secondary education, only with a bigger bill. In 2011 Washington spent almost $79 billion on K-12 education, and the latest federal data show inflation-adjusted federal outlays per pupil ballooning from $446 in 1970-71 to $1,185 in 2008-09. Meanwhile, scores for 17-year-olds on the National Assessment of Educational Progress — the “Nation’s Report Card” — have been stagnant.

Democrats always get this stupid notion in their head that "hey, lets just throw more tax payer money at this and that." New programs, new regs, etc and most turn out to do no good and be wasteful.

To improve our **** poor educational system, will involve cuts and no more throwing money around hoping itll do good.

Indeed, smaller class sizes are better, but more teachers cost more money. You can't reduce class sizes while cutting school budgets.
