Paul Ryan recently bragged on the Hugh Hewitt show that he ran "sub three hour" marathons, before a bad back forced him to keep his jogging to "no more than 10 miles" ()
Running World magazine went "Hmmmm...", because a sub three hour marathon should WIN most races. Turns out, they were unable to find a race Ryan had run where he did better than 4 HOURS.
Oooops... Ryan was confronted with the discrepancy, and had to withdraw the brag, saying, "Oh yeah, that was my BROTHER who used to run really fast" ()
It seems Ryan has a problem telling the truth. If he'll tell bragging lies about the little things, he'll also lie about the BIG things- like everything he covered in his convention speech...

Cut the little guy a break. Don't we ALL confuse our own accomplishments with those of our siblings?
I' m telling you, man, Mini MItt has a credibility problem! And these are ACTUAL lies, easily refuted, not like the BS agit-prop the Rove GOP turned on Gore and Kerry in the 2000 and 2004 cycles.
Let's hope the media does its job, and the voters are paying attention

I'm impressed with what a casual liar he is. The guy has run one marathon -- you'd think he would remember every little detail about it. And he acts like he does -- when queried, he immediately spouts off that he ran "Under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something.". No "I think" or "something like three hours or so". He was very clear that he ran under three hours.
It is also worth noting that he was asked if he ran marathonS. But he has only run one -- at least of which there is any record (and marathons are impressive achievements, so if you've run one or more in the last few decades, there is almost certainly your name posted online under results in many different places). He didn't bother to correct the obsequieous interviewer. I guess when you're a liar in the first place, the last thing you do is correct those who do your lying for you!
The only marathon Ryan ever ran was Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1990. Just out of curiosity, I checked the results for the 2012 race, run this June past. Out of 3423 who finished, only 165 broke three hours. So Ryan didn't just embellish a little, he claimed that he finished in the top 5%!
Good think Hugh Hewitt didn't ask him if he'd ever done any mountain climbing... he'd have probably said, "I've climbed a few 8000ers. Everest, a couple times. Solo. Via the north ridge. Without any supplemental oxygen. On a unicycle. While juggling three bowling pins. With my eyes closed."
On a side note -- I'm amazed he was stupid enough to think that he could make such a claim and that no one would fact-check it (maybe he doesn't realize that info is available on the intertubes! )
That kind of lying has to be pathological. Why would someone lie about something stupid like that.
Unfortunately I think that is a condition that too many politicians suffer from.
That's just it--if you lie habitually about the little stuff, what do you do with the big stuff? There was absolutely no reason to lie about his time in a marathon, or how many he's run. I'm beginning to think that he rewrites history in his head and then absolutely believes his own lies. How can you ever trust someone like that? It's very twisted...

And if you just have to lie, at least show enough intelligence to lie about something substantive and relevant.
Don't just lie to indulge your vanity, about some pretend physical prowess.
That's just sad and, frankly, really pathetic...
