If I walk in my own bank and cash a check (my check), I have to show ID. Don't these people have checking accounts?
Many don't have checking accounts. Are you implying they aren't American if they don't? That's pretty much known as, "if they aren't like me, they aren't American". Then there is this homeless guy in SC that just won $200,000 lotto prize, what if, what if ... How's he going to cash that check?

What a crock of ****.
You're the one that accuses people who don't think like you of being "un-American". Daily. With regularity. Almost like you're reading a script.

I would wager that those who have a summer "cottage" in the Hamptons have checking accounts. As a note the payday loan places and check cashing outfits also require ID.

As to the Hamptons voting issue, the answer is yes. MD recently had a Democrat Congressional candidate have to withdraw from the election due to her voting both here and in FL.

I do that? Err, I do feel "All men are created equal" and when some people demonstrate that they don't, I point that difference out. Is that what you mean?

You must not have a lot of experience with the truly elderly. It is quite a task to get my MIL anywhere at age 93. She can't get places on her own, has to have a ride, is a perpetual whiner, etc. She lives in some senior apt, and IIRC from the last election, they had people sign up for absentee ballots.

Ah, these sore Republican losers! As for the bank issue, I think it's like the dr's office. Some do ask for ID, some don't.

Retreating to your typical obtuseness. Again. Read what you write, or do you just copy it without thinking?

It's just not hard to get a state ID though. I think that's a lot of the point. If a person actually cannot get a state ID...wow, can they even get it together enough to vote?

Nearly all elderly retirement homes have shuttles that can and will take people just about anywhere in town - including to the DMV.

No wonder Mythster doesn't feel he needs to provide specifics, his followers lap up the lack of them thereby, learning nothing.

Better yet, how's he going to get that check? I would wager that the SC lottery requires someone to show some sort of ID before they give them a check of that size.

Oh yes - from the SC lottery website:

Q: I won a prize, now what do I do?
A: First, SIGN YOUR TICKET in the space provided on the ticket back! Tickets are bearer instruments, meaning if you lose a ticket before you sign it, you no longer have valid ownership of the ticket. Once your ticket is signed, if the winnings are valued at $500 or less, you may redeem your ticket at any Lottery Retailer. Winnings over $500 up to and including $100,000 may be claimed by mail or at the Columbia Claims Center. To redeem winnings by mail: fill out a claim form and include a copy of a picture identification card (driver's license, state or military I.D., or passport), then mail the signed ticket, the claim form, and the copy of the I.D. (via registered mail) to the Columbia Claims Center. Winnings greater than $100,000 must be redeemed in person at the Columbia Claims Center.

Hmmm. My mom was 91 when she died. She not only "had to have a ride" but she had to have help walking from room to room even, and definitely anywhere else. She had to have help to get to the car and then I had a little stepstool for her to stand on and turn around and sit in the car, and then we would put her legs in. She could use a walker - with help - but couldn't walk more than a few steps without being out of breath, and for anything more than that we used a wheelchair. She could not be alone because she would fall. She hadn't driven in many years, but she did keep her driver's license updated and she voted in every election.

If she had needed to get an ID other than her driver's license she would have wanted to do that and we would have loaded her in the car and gone to get it.
