I know many Hispanics. Some were born to citizens, from families here for generations. Others are either legal immigrants or naturalized citizens. They all oppose Obama's stance on illegal immigration. In fact, many who voted for him in 2008 will not do so again primarily due to his shameful pandering to illegal aliens. I could be wrong, but I believe they are the minority. Unlike millions of Hispanics, they don't have family or friends living here illegally, and do not sympathize with illegal aliens. This is especially true for immigrants I know who jumped through many hoops to come here legally, paid hefty fees, and complied with all rules and regulations. They resent the fact that illegal aliens are being rewarded for violating our laws. They also resent being grouped with illegal aliens, and that massive Hispanic illegal immigration has sullied the image of Hispanics in general.
While many Hispanics oppose illegal immigration, others support illegal aliens simply due to the fact that most share their ethnicity. They also ostracize Hispanics who do not share their view on this issue, and call them traitors, coconuts, and far worse. Therefore, they will vote for Obama because they believe he will legalize their ethnic brethren, or at least continue to make it easy for them to remain here. They consider opposition to illegal immigration as an attack against Hispanics, because that is the rhetoric being spewed by the media and those who profit from illegal, cheap labor. It's a known fact that opponents of illegal immigration are demonized and labeled racists, xenophobes, nativists, anti-Hispanic, etc. Illegal immigration has become an extremely divisive issue, by design.
