Poor Donald, he seemed really bummed. Is it too early for a drink? Does it get any better than this? I think not.

We had TV pictures of the two parties side by side showing a marked contrast between the two camps just before the Ohio result was announced. It was a very interesting night.

I haven't really gone to sleep at all. I went to bed last night but neither Hubby nor I could sleep ( a mixture of having a cold and worries about the elections results) so we spent most of the night up watching the events unfold. I am so relieved and I suspect so is most of the rest of the world.

Romney was bad enough, but with Ryan as a running mate it would have been disastrous. As a woman, and as a human being... Thank goodness common sense prevailed ! I was pretty worried for a while there. American friends celebrating madly right now . Big Sigh of Relief. I am so glad the GOP shot itself in the foot with two ludicrous candidates.

I do hope the Republicans start to realise that they must exclude the extremists from their ranks and reform into a politically coherent and viable party and try to work with the administration rather than against it. Anything else is just cutting your nose to spite your face. You could respect some Republicans in the old days but now they all seem to be a bunch of loonies and right-wing religious nutjobs. Narrow escape we had. At least Romney's speech was gracious enough . And I thought Obama's very inspiring, but then again he is such an excellent orator.

Maybe now with a little luck if the right stops blocking him at every turn American can move forward and he can achieve what he set out to. A stronger and fairer America needs both parties working together not behaving like toddlers. A third and fourth viable party might also be a good thing adding a little more variety to the mix.... Not holding my breath though...

Now I will be able to sleep at night knowing that Romney is gone. How did you sleep last night, EdwardA. I bet you can start sleeping now that you don't have to do all those statistics to show that the polls were wrong.
