The polls either need to be systematically wrong in a way for which there is no historical precedent, or there needs to be a comparatively dramatic electorate shift in the next 48 hours.
Both eventualities are simply very unlikely.
Very reasonable, objective post. It's the 270, btw. My hunch is MItt will win the popular vote, but lose the electoral, based on too many swing states where he has consistently trailed. Ohio is a must win for Romney, and in non-partisan polls, he has been a few points down every time.
I will split the difference between Intrade (66%) and Silver (85%) for Obama, and say 75%. For Romney 25%. That is not a trivial shot, but it is not a likelihood.
I am a Mitt Romney supporter but it looks like he has lost the election. I know only 30% of people have voted but the polls tell us that Mitt does not stand a chance in the battleground states in the Electorial College. The experts have spoken, Mitt will not be President.
And I am sad about it.
Do you agree, he can't win?
(But Mitt may win the popular vote, but that does not really matter, sadly)
yes, he might very well win one, but not the other, but I think you are watching the wrong Sunday morning shows, The liberal side would love us to think it is over, so people will not bother to vote, but that isn't the Republican way. As for early voting, no one has a clue how it is going. The only clue would be requests for absentee ballots, which many are never even returned. Most polls, most programing and most news people are saying it is a toss up: Romney appears to have a slight lead in a few swing states and Obama in others.

Don't fall for the White House Field Press Office (NBS, CBS, ABC, et al) get you down.
That's what they are there for.
They want people to think that so that they will be complacent and not vote. I haven't voted yet. I'm waiting for the main day. I'm sure there are millions of others who haven't yet either. It's not over til it's over!
The media are DESPERATE to call this a horse race. That makes for higher viewer figures, which makes for more ad revenue, and isn't that what journalism is all about?
