Well now, if a RAPIST can get elected POTUS (clinton) then it is certainly no chore for an adulturer to win a House seat...

Got to love when Democrats get all preachy about the hypocrisy of GOP family values, you know, they hold a monopoly on this. From Slick Willie's forays with barely legal interns, to darn near assault charges, to John Edwards using campaign funds to pay money to his mistress to hide evidence of an illegitimate child while his wife struggled with terminal cancer. Anthony Wiener getting "hacked" on Twitter...a modern classic. Those are tough to beat. Sure people screw around, politicians included. Happens all the time.

What does it say about the Dem candidate, that outspent Sanford 3:1, had friendly media hammering the Argentinian tryst 24/7, and still lost by 9 points?

If he'll lie and cheat on his wife and kids, what makes you think he won't do the same to those who voted for him?

He committed adultery and divorced his wife.

Do you agree with every single thing every person you have ever voted for has said and done?
Simple yes or no would suffice.

You do get that there are many conservatives that are not religious, right? And she got divorced and kept their father from seeing his children, while managing to get arrested in the process.

It's the issues. And apparently, his private life took a back seat to his stand on the issues.

The difference of course is that these Democrats weren't thumping their Bibles and telling
us how they represent family values and how they are "holier than thou".

Nope, but adultery is a pretty big deal. If he wasn't happy he should have been a man and parted ways from his wife. Instead he humiliated his family in a very public and embarrassing manner.

I just hope when it comes time to vote on those other issues, he remembers that he committed quite a serious sin himself that many others look down upon.

I don't recall Sanford ever thumping a bible. It doesn't really matter, cheating on your spouse is sign of your character, I don't care if you have a (D) or an (R) after your name. Still, though Sanford cheated, and acted like a loon, he still beat Colbert-Busch....that's got to sting a bit for the Democrats. Must be doing something the voters in SC disagree with more than Sanford's high profile philandering.

This is my district. For so many of you going on and on about the Christian right and how you are shocked Sanford won due to that, well that's not this district. We are on the coast, in the metro area of Charleston, and the district runs up to through Pawley's Island and to the southern end of Myrtle Beach.

This district is very right. However, it is NOT a Christian right area. It is quite affluent, has an enormous small business presence, and has consistently voted Republican. During this election, it actually got quite irritating to the residents here. Once the big Democrat money flowed in, it was negative from Busch 100% of the time. She never, not once, stated her own positions and instead sent out mailers, had commercials, and any other means to slam Sanford. It got to the point that people were talking about how petty it had become. She ended up alienating the very people she was trying to sway.

This district is less about the whole family values thing that the Christian right supports (which, by the way, I think is STUPID to expect from ANY politician), and more about the financial aspect of the Republican platform. The general consensus here was that a vote for Busch = a vote for the Pelosi/Obama agenda. It became a point of go with what you know.

So, for those wondering how this district voted for him? It was really more about economics than anything else. As an aside, we're a highly educated, very affluent area and have been rated one of the best areas for small business in the United States. We are not ignorant, illiterate, or any of the other narrow-minded characteristics that seem to be an assumption by those that have never been here.

Sometimes, it's just about a candidate's platform. Sanford, we knew, would be very conservative fiscally. Busch, we only knew she wanted to beat Sanford.
