Sen. Angus King (I-Maine), who caucuses with the Democrats, will decide after the midterm elections whether to switch sides and join the Republicans. He is leaving open the possibility of aligning himself with the GOP if control of the upper chamber changes hands.
“I’ll make my decision at the time based on what I think is best for Maine,” King told The Hill Wednesday after voting with Republicans to block the Paycheck Fairness Act, a measure at the center for the 2014 Democratic campaign agenda.

Wow!

This is remarkable. Our friends on the left have been telling us that the GOP is a regional party comfined to the Deep South ever since Obama was elected. Is Maine in the Deep South? It must be.

And you cons have been telling us that there's no room for RINOs in today's GOP. When did that change?

Who the hell said that?

Also, is he sufficently conservative enough not to be a RINO if he has been with the democrats for so long?

Never. You can't stop him from changing parties since he's reading the political winds. Unless you know something the rest of us don't.

The political winds in the GOP have been blowing in a rightward direction for the past 30 years nonstop .

But Angus King:

opposes oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
opposes the House plan to cut $40B from SNAP
supports background checks and limiting the size of magazines to 10 rounds
supports Obamacare
is pro-choice
supports same-sex marriage

Are you seriously suggesting that the GOTP would welcome him into its ranks, when other lawmakers with similar positions have been slammed as "RINOs" and successfully targeted for defeat in primaries?

Unlike the Democrat Party, the GOP is a big tent party. All who are committed to personal responsibility, smaller government and individual rights are welcome!

King sounds like a democrat to me. He is just saving his own skin by switching

My guess is King is just putting a feeler out there to try and get some Committee Chairmanship or at least a high ranking member. His voting record and ideology certainly doesn't put him anywhere near the Republican Party. He is considerably more liberal than his Maine counterpart in the Senate Susan Collins (who is the most liberal Republican in the senate). He had an ACU rating of 13
