Katrina Pierson is an interesting phenomenon. She explains a little about her life story here. She grew up impoverished, daughter of a 15-yr-old mother, but she lifted herself up by her bootstraps in the traditional American manner. She was in a viral video from the Dallas Tea Party that made Keith Olbermann look like the douche that he is, and 4 years later finds herself running for US Congress.

Her opponent is Pete Sessions (R, TX), chair of the all-powerful rules committee, said by some to be a RINO. The primary is only a couple weeks from now, March 4. I would love to see her win. It's a safe R seat, so whoever wins on March 4 will be the next congress-critter from that district. She has been endorsed by both Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin. I sent her a nice donation.

Pete Sessions is a RINO? Seems like he has a pretty solid conservative record:

A+ from the NRA, 0% from the ACLU, anti-gay marriage, 100% by the Chamber of Commerce

Because sometimes there is a candidate we feel so strongly about we want to do what we can to help, both financially and physically. It costs a lot to run for public office, even a local one. If you don't get any financial help, yes, even from the small donors, good people couldn't afford to run.

Well, I'd like to ask - why is Sessions deemed "not conservative enough"? He has a pretty solid rightwing voting record. What specifically does the OP not like about Sessions? It's pretty darned hard to be a purist? It's kind of like that guy in the House seat taking on John Cornyn - who is one of the most conservative ones in the Senate...

Well, unless you have a significant difference on policy or ideology stances, that by itself isn't really a good reason to dump Sessions for a newbie.

Consider this - Congress runs on the seniority system. Meaning that those members who have been around for a few terms will have more pull to get on certain committees that can benefit their constituents. And better knows other Congresscritters to be able to work together with. So you replace Sessions with Pierson, who is a freshman Congressperson low on the totem pole and who isn't really in the position to make an impact for awhile.

We are Trillions in debt. I have a significant difference in beliefs concerning the way the country should have been run while he has been in office.
