So is the current Republican party, the only difference is how they want to use the power of the government. That is why Rand Paul is such a fraud, he has no true libertarian principles. To him, it is just a marketing slogan.

Yes, but on one of the very most important distinctions between freedom and slavery, libertarians and socialists are exactly the opposite of each other.

Of course the Republican party is almost as bad as the true liberal democrats, which are almost as bad as a Socialist like Sanders. But almost as bad is not there yet.

I personally would love to see the libertarians put up an electable candidate, but I doubt they will.

Personally I lean libertarian, although I do not believe in going as far as they do with dumping most of the government, and I am a registered independent.

The first political use of the word "libertarian" was by French anarcho-communist, Joseph Dejacque.

https://anarchopac.wordpress.com/201...d-libertarian/

Quote:
It proceeded to be adopted by anarchists everywhere as a synonym for anarcho-communism, anarcho-syndicalism and so forth. The reason for this is that at the time if you referred to yourself or your organisation as being anarchist you were likely to be imprisoned, have your organisation banned and wouldn’t be able to print pamphlets or books. So in order to escape the tyranny of law they started adopting the term libertarian. Hence why in Europe the term libertarian has always meant libertarian socialist or libertarian communist.
Outside of North America, the term is still understood as referring to leftist anarchists. Right wing appropriation of the term is relatively recent (last half of The Twentieth Century) and is geographically limited to The US and Canada.

Socialism is not monolithic. There are many libertarian socialists in the world. We are both anti-capitalist and anti-statist, believing that the means of production should be in the hands of worker-collectives, as opposed to either capitalists or the state.

Bernie Sanders is a European-style democratic socialist, which means that he is a statist. Personally, I find him vastly preferable to any of the capitalists who are running, but as a libertarian socialist, I would have to give a lot of consideration to directly supporting him.

I'm not a libertarian and I would never support a socialist that is old as dirt.

This doesn't make your point for you.

I have no idea who would promote such an argument.
