Not sure it is a FATAL mistake. If Trump attacked Chris Kyle, maybe, McCain, well, I think people will eventually let this go. Dumb remark, maybe, but let's not pretend McCain did anything meaningful for the veterans.
He supported getting a lot of them killed before they were able to become veterans. (and still does)
