I propose abolishing it by making it illegal.

Here is what I learned in high school:

Abortion became a Constitutional right pursuant to Roe v. Wade. A Federal or state statute, therefore, cannot "abolish" abortion, because the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land.

As I showed in another thread, GOP doesn't control anywhere close to the required number of states (3/4) with bicameral legislature control to adopt a Constitutional amendment.

So, the pro-lifers are out of luck. Sorry.

Mick

Talking Huckabee: "As president..."

President?

Of the Little Rock school board, maybe.

That will never happen, ever hear of a thing called the Supreme Court. Abortion is a constitutional right that can't just be taken away. I for one am sick of the anti-choicers and their ongoing temper tantrum, it has been 42 years now.

If the conservative America of the '80s didn't ban abortion it certainly won't happen in this, more liberal era.

It's long past time for the Republican Party to yield to the Libertarian Party as the voice for responsible conservatism in America. Put the Bible-thumpers and fig leaf-hangers into the same box with the bottom of the barrel among the Democrats who think that the world should both owe them a living and cater to their personal interests.

Hopefully, they will take each other out and the rest of us can get on with pursuing our own goals with our own efforts, earning an honest living, and keeping more of the rewards of our labors.

I think Huckabee is one of the most dangerous candidates currently running on the GOP side. He is a hardcore Christian nationalist who if had complete power would make the Bible the law of the land and use the military to force people into submission. The fact he is even a serious contender is pretty scary.

I agree, but at 6% he cannot be considered a "serious contender" yet.

Agree with this, but it isn't going to happen until the Moral Majority that is the base of the Republican Party dies off which will be another 20-30 years. A lot of people who have limited experience with the Christian Right don't understand that these people believe they are doing God's work so there is absolutely no compromise with them. To them, one cannot be a Christian and not support their politics. Religion is politics and politics is religion.
