Rush and his backup singers (Hannity, Beck, Coulter, Ingram, etc.) have a full on frontal assault on John McCain. Why?

Because they don't like McCain's pro-Amnesty stance and past actions as a liberal (democrat) voter/supporter. I think McCain has to take a HARD stance on immigration by pledging to not support illegal immigrants in this country and sending them back for breaking the law, without benefits. If he does that then I can see some conservatives coming under his bandwagon. If not, then he can just forget about conservatives coming to his support. Even at the CPAC meeting, he was booed for the very same issue and he still spoke out that AFTER the wall is built he will deal with it... he will deal with it by giving out amnesty.. he has NOT budge on it since the last time he ran... and unless he wants to lose.. he better make that pledge soon or he will see all the conservative votes go to Huckabee and Ron Paul...

there may also be a component of wanting to punish the republicans for picking such inappropriate candidates. bush has been a fiscal nightmare for this country and mccain could not even get the nomination in 2000. huckabee has been terrible in arkansas, raising the state's general obligation debt by almost 1 billion dollars. certainly the fiscal conservative vote is up for grabs in this election.

He did a horrible job trying to convince people yesterday that he's changed his stance. There will be no wall. There will be nothing to stop the immigration.

Certainly conservative talk radio wants a McCain vs. Clinton contest; it would rally the GOP base of conservatives no matter what. But a McCain vs. Obama contest is a little less attractive, to the extent that independents and liberal Republicans could swing in both directions. Moreover, Obama isn't as hated (much of which is unfair) as Clinton.

The rightwing radio entertainers would love to profit from a Democrat even if means tossing rightwinger like McCain to the curb.

They are trying to convince themselves and their followers they are not completely irrelevant, based on the nil influence they have had on this election.

because the USA will face some of the worst moments in its entire history in the forecoming years. They rather have a Dem in office at the time when the American economy sinks, just to present a Rep candidate like the ultimate American hero that willl solve all of the madness the USA will be in.

A McCain vs Obama contest would more so rally all the white racists around the white candidate than would the Hillary haters around the GOP. McCain wont need talk radio. I believe that there are more racists (ranging from benign racists to extreme racists) than they are solely Hillary haters. Both are sick in my opinion.
