Hmm. Maybe Rule 40 will mean that Trump is the only candidate that can be nominated no matter the number of delegates. As rule now stands, if candidate doesn't meet this requirement, they can't be nominated.
Trump now has 7 of the 8 states needed to meet requirement to be considered for nomination for the GOP presidential candidate.
South Carolina - 50 of 50
Alabama - 36 of 50
Georgia - 46 of 76
Massachusetts - 22 of 42
Tennessee - 33 of 58
Hawaii - 10 of 19
Mississippi - 24 of 40
Trump should easily score the 8th state on the 15th.
On the other hand, Cruz only has 4 states. He is unlikely to win a majority in 4 more states.
Rubio only has 1 and that's only if Puerto Rico is counted as a state.
Read what it says. Those rules expire a day before the convention starts, which means they can vote to move that threshold at the convention. Trump could get the majority of delegates in 49 states and they could vote to change the threshold to 50 states at the convention and block Trump's nomination. He's not going to win, keep dreaming.
They will drop that requirement like a hot potato if the only person it qualifies is Trump. Don't kid yourself. The only reason they have that rule now is because they enacted the day before the 2012 convention to shut out Ron Paul.

There are 2 things you are overlooking: 1-the rules can be changed up to convention and 2-there is a difference between a brokered convention and a contested convention. Google the two.

Haha. Oh I'm counting on it if it turns out that way.

No difference if you are not eligible to be considered for nomination.
The GOP can change any and all rules at any time. If Trump gets the nomination it will be no doubt because he made a backroom deal with the GOP power brokers, while Trump may not need the donor class (jury still out), everyone else in the GOP does to get reelected, microfinancing only works in Presidential races, a congress race does not get people motivated enough to support it with micro donations, so if you think Trump is goign to be able to thumb his nose up at the donor class and get the nomination is just wishful thinking.

This is a non issue if the eligibility can be changed at any time. Trump doesn't have this in the bag without first going through the Republican establishment in a very messy convention.

They were so dumb to do that. Ron Paul would not have one and they just alienated a significant percent of their base and showed their corruption. As for Cruz, I don't see how he can be president since he was born in Canada.
