Obama: 'They cling to guns or religion' | Gleanings | ChristianityToday.com
^The full quote

Quote:
You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
I don't really think this quote is that similar to Trump's quotes. Imagine the outage if we switched Islam out for Christianity in Trump's quotes.

I am reading through this thread and find it is just more of the Trump supporters' delusion, distortion and hate and irresponsibility for their leader's actions.

If this were the 30s, as it is beginning to look like, it would be like the Germans blaming this on the Jews (which they did in order to justify their hideous actions). What an unbelievable bunch of deniers. Have you looked up close at the crowd? There are as many white supremacist jerks full of rage screaming in people's faces as those protesting Trump's hateful rhetoric.

This is all on Trump who, by the way, is of course denying any responsibility at all for inciting people, who is lying through his teeth that he cancelled his rally in compliance with the police. The police said they had nothing to do with the decision.

Fact is, Trump will not go to a rally where everyone isn't there to bow down, kiss his ring and do the requisite salute. He's an egocentric coward, who cut and run. Then he sat on his throne and called tv stations to try to control the PR and talk about what a uniter he is. Playing Nero while Rome burns.

A uniter? I don't think turning tail and running in the face of opposition is uniting. Did he try to calm the crowd? No. Did he try to calm his screaming angry supporters? No. The guy simply pours gasoline on the fire and takes off in his luxury jet. What a dangerous joke this man is.

Not one quality leader has come from it's loins, all Chicago has given us is corrupt power hungry dictators (and mediocre pizza) so why should anyone be surprised there was a riot run by thugs and socialist rubes called Bernie supporters.

I couldn't disagree more.

Our pizza is AWESOME.

I'm sure you don't see it as similar. It was a demeaning statement aimed directly at those who did not support him.

I guess this demonstrates(no pun) why Chicago has such high crime rates.

.
Let's face the facts: a substantial number of his supporters are uneducated, angry and have been on the short end of the economic process for a long time. They think he can get them to a place of prosperity with little effort on their part required. What they don't see is that the fault lies in themselves - but it is easier for them to blame it on the demographic shift in this country. It is much harder for them to look in the mirror and say "well, what have I done to build a marketable career over the past 20 years?". Trump enables them - they don't have to put much effort into identifying their shortfalls, and can just yell loudly and bully people around.

This is why his campaign stops resemble monster truck rallies.

If I call you rapist, terrorist, idiot, bimbo on her period, "I'd like to punch you in the face" I bet you wouldn't think those are terms of endearment. Even a 5 year old would say it's offensive and that's not how a person in power should be treating the people he represents.

Your anti-PC BS does not apply to leaders. If you treat the people you will represent with such violence and disdain, they are going to protest.

I seen a statement that said.

It was just people holding arms until people started inciting.
And yes, I want a society where me and like minded people can put a stop to an idiot running to be leader of MY country.

Well I believe its called a vote . and how about the people who are like minded who wanted to hear what Trump had to say. oh yea its only your right that counts.

I think some one should have checked green cards .
and if you think this is a racist statement. you can kiss my backside because its not its a American who wants to make sure there is no outside influence interrupting a American political rally

You do realize that he has the Secret Service protecting him and who would have told him he was NOT going not to mention I'd bet the local PD was telling him NOT to go as they couldn't protect him and it would inflame things even more.
At the point where he would have shown up the PD were trying to empty the event (not add to it) and get the peaceful Bernie/BLM supporters to move along.

So what you say makes no sense what so ever, just more partisan babble.

You refuse to answer the simple question I've asked twice. Fine. I find that the crux of this issue.

Some people believe in free speech; offensive or not, majority or not, and popular or not; is a hallmark of this country. Others believe offensive speech should be stopped and they alone get to decide what is offensive and the offender must be punished. Scary stuff.
