What makes you think he's ashamed? Or do you associate Hispanics with something to be ashamed of?

When the Hispanic community refuses to support any right wing politician going forward, the sentiments behind a post like this will be the reason why.

God, I hope our country is better than that.
No one said that. But a poster has created a thread denigrating a nominee for speaking English AND Spanish. As if it is a negative. Good luck with that. Another poster replied to someone highlighting delicious Mexican foods by saying he has learned to "cope" with it as if guacamole is something you have to cope with. I'll just eat it instead, thanks.

Conservative Republicans disagree and think it is rather important to winning.

"...Now, of course there are many Hispanic voters who not only speak English as their primary language, they don't even speak Spanish at all, but for a great many Hispanic voters, they do speak Spanish either as their first or second language, and we need a nominee who can speak to those voters in that language..."

"...So I would say to all potential 2016 nominees, if you're serious about becoming President of the United States, leading the Republican Party and the Conservative Movement, then prove how serious you are by learning to speak Spanish..."

In 2013, he gave a speech in Spanish on the floor of Congress, what a horse's butt!

Also looks like young Hispanics won't be falling all over themselves with gratitude, they are more "so what". http://qz.com/740486/young-hispanic-...peaks-spanish/

No one is trying to stifle it. But don't expect to be pandered to in Spanish especially by a politician. There is nothing nativist about that. Like it or not English is our national de facto language although I know many Spanish speakers would like to change that. I say tough! Move to a dominantly Spanish speaking country then. We aren't changing for you nor should we have to pander to you.

What is ridiculous is getting all bent out of shape because someone who is fluent in Spanish spoke a little bit of Spanish at a campaign event in a city that is heavily Spanish speaking.

We already knew that because the Democrats are pandering to them with amnesty for their illegal amigos in spite of the negative impact on our own citizens. Throw in a Spanish speaking candidate along with that and they get all giddy.

It's called campaigning, aka appealing to your audience, aka winning an election. Republicans should try it sometime.
