Why are so many Republican leaders voting for Clinton in 2016? It's a simple strategy really and it has little to do with their fondness for Hillary Rodham. A Donald Trump administration has a very great risk of completing the destruction of the Republican Party, and all but guaranteeing a long line of Democratic victories into the future. In other words, vote Clinton in and live to fight another day.
Almost ANY of the other Republican primary candidates would have beaten Clinton in the general election. Plenty of Democrats would have voted for Rubio or Kasich or Carson over Clinton. No doubt if Clinton is elected President in 2016, any reasonable Republican candidate could easily defeat her in 2020 (assuming she is running for a second term).
Conversely a Trump win will almost guarantee a Democrat victory in 2020. Even his strongest supporters of today will be ready to dump him after watching 4 years of the Trump circus.
They obviously don't care about the balance of the Supreme Court.
That's part of the reason why Republicans don't trust Trump in the White House. They have NO idea what he will do with things like Supreme Court nominations. Because, Trump is no conservative. "In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat," Trump stated during an interview in 2005.

They don't seem to present anyone that would appeal to both parties. If and when they do they may get lucky.
Rubio never showed up to vote so apparently he doesn't really like to work, only get paid.
My feeling is that any thread that has "Clinton win in 2016" isn't being very realistic at this point. For her a win will amount to still being alive to hear that Trump won.
I don't see why anyone would think that what the establishment GOP "leaders" say would make a difference. As I stated before, those voting for Trump are fed up with their kind in the first place, thus the support of Trump. I'm thinking that many don't realize that many of us think for ourselves and vote for the candidate not the party, I mean, this isn't 1940 where we have such limited information that we can't make an intelligent decision on our own, well, if we choose to do that and not let someone else think for us.
If the Hillary fantasy took place, forget about worrying about 2020.

America ain't doomed, my friend. Take a deep breath and and get a grip- we are still pretty darned strong, especially in comparison to the rest of the northern hemisphere. We don't brag about holding fast like England does- we just do it.
If Clinton wins, it won't be the enod of your world as you know it, but it could force the Republican party to finally recognize the 21st century is here, and the 20th century won't ever return.
If that happens, then the Republicans could reasonably win in 2020. If it doesn't happen, then Clinton will be re-elected if she wants another 4 years.
She may not want another term. The next 4 years are going to be even more tense, fraught with divisiveness, with more challenges from abroad and from at home, than it has been in the past 8 years. The winner is going to be beaten up much more than Obama was, no matter who wins. Much more frequently, too.
But doom?
no.
We have been beaten up as a nation much worse than this before, and we can take a lot harder hit than the last 16 years have given us. Don't panic up yourself all up just yet. For sure, there is worse to come. We may stagger, but we won't fail. Never have yet, in over 250 years.
But if you have a bad case of chickenskin right now, you my want to consider fleeing while the getting out is still easy. We who stay won't miss you when you're gone.
