Just a random guy with an average life, no political experience, no high level business experience, etc. He starts off delivering his message on Twitter and YouTube to build a following and then becomes a serious candidate and wins. Could this happen?

The oligarch doesn't want that. So no.

Well normally presidents have some type of political record. I'm not sure that's such a horrible thing...

And exactly how was Obama "notorious" before he got elected?

Define notoriety.
It's likely more of our future Presidents will have divorce in their history, something that would once sink any hopeful. It's also likely future Presidents will have some complicated financial issues in their past too, given all the financial turmoil that has been going on for years.

Our society is in great flux and everything is changing fast in it. What could stop a candidate cold in the past may amount to nothing in the future. What past generations would not even envision could be a big blocker for a future candidate.

What's notorious today won't stay notorious forever. But there will always be something that is notorious at the moment. It's a part of human existence, even if it does constantly shift, fade or rise. Power is always tempting, and is always easily corrupted, so notoriety will always follow along.

But there are likelihoods, too. A future President will probably have some substantial political history to support him, will probably be wealthier than average, and will come from a career that lies outside the military, legal practice, farming, or teaching, all professions that have given us many of the past. Future Presidents could become younger on average than those of the past, too, and may come from a minority of some kind or other.

It won't be long before a woman is elected into the office, and single persons of either gender will also be elected if marriage continues to decline as in institution. Religion will also become much less a factor too.

Are we ready for a never-married 45-year old lesbian president who has 2 children who came from different surrogate mothers? Probably not, just yet. But I don't think it will be long off, either, especially if the candidate connects well with enough voters.
