It makes sense that Pence is covering his options.

If things don't change, he's still going to be a loyal Vice President.
If they do, he's better off if he's prepared some for it, as he would be running next time.

I think that's just practical.

I have no doubts that, for as long as Trump is President, Pence will be just as good a V.P. as he can be, and loyal to the bone.

His PAC has supposedly raised more money than Trump's.

Donors are fickle. They're hedging their bets.

If Pence attempts to run off against Trump in a primary, that will finish Pence, and open the remote possibility that the Democrats might actually win. Pence is too far right to win in 2020, but I suspect he has a fair chance in 2024 based on social issues. Trump is taking care of business that applies to ALL citizens, Pence like the Democratic Party is about social agendas. Appreciate Trump while we have him.

Default so...

If the man has any sense he is preparing for the inevitable... sooner than later.

oh heavens, even if he were to decide to run he isn't the type that would run against Trump in the primaries. He is way too smart for that.

Nita,

It is being talked about because Pence himself has set up a PAC. For someone who isn't thinking about running, it's certainly a bit odd to set up a PAC, especially this early as no previous VP has done so.

Do I think he will Primary Trump? Very unlikely. Do I think Pence setting up a PAC this early merits a discussion about him possibly running? Yes

You think it's Pence, do you?

It never ceases to amaze me how much the left doesn't seem to know unless someone on CNN tells them about it.

But that's fine...if you want to think that it's Pence who is running in 2020...go ahead. As of this moment, it's not Pence, but please bookmark this so when campaign season comes around again, you'll know that you totally and completely missed something in this present moment.

Update: After reading posts in this thread, I'll add that people on both sides and in the middle have all missed it. It's kind of a big deal so I'm surprised that so many aren't aware of it. Just bookmark this. Bring it back up in about a year...I'll tell you then if you haven't figured it out by then. Maybe it's just this forum, because a whole lot of people on the left and right outside of this forum seem to know the big fat piece of information that you all don't seem to know.

Out of curiosity, why do you think Pence decided to set up PAC at this Pont? Would you at least agree it's a bit unusual?

Fwiw, I'm not saying he will run, but setting up a PAC at this point certainly raises speculation.

If he were to win, which he won't, his wife would be the First Mother.

I am not doubting for a second he may run if Trump does not. The point I was making simply is: we have so far before it is anywhere near 2020 that to even be making a deal out of this or any other thing a possible candidate might be doing is reaching for straws. Now, after the 2018 elections it will be totally different.
