Maybe all of this hysteria over Wright's seven-year-old remarks will, in the long run, prove to be a plus for Obama's campaign. After all, the paleolithics who still claim that Obama is a muslim will now be faced with having to choose: is Obama a Christian who attended this church for decades, baptized his daughters there, and was married there? Or is he a stealth muslim because of his middle name?

Oh, don't wonder, the Obama detractors are consistent in their hatred. After this fades, there will be something else. Who knows, maybe he'll be a closet Muslim again. I'd like to think this isn't steeped in racism, but I think most of us suspect it is.

If Obama plays his cards right, it may end up being to his advantage. Thus far, I'd say he's handled it in a very slick manner.
I wasn't sure which Obama thread to put this in, but this is one of the newer ones, and I think you have a good point, Gringo. Let's see how they spin that one!
Anyway, here is a video of a speech Obama gave on Martin Luther King Day.
It addresses equal opportunity bigotry--in other words, black racism.
Obama addresses homophobia, anti-Semitism and xenophobia in MLK Ebenezer Baptist Church speech (http://www.pamshouseblend.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=4223 - broken link) If we're honest with ourselves, we'll acknowledge that our own community has not always been true to King's vision of a beloved community.
I think Obama is a pretty darned good guy.
Is he a politician?
Without a doubt.
Is he flawless?
Probably not.
But he knows and understands the *human* experience, and I think he wants to improve everyone's lot in life, not just one subsection.
The whole fiasco has turned this into a black vs white election, which while good for the "Black Liberation" soul, and provides pleasurable self-flagellation for the dwindling number of left-wing Chomskyites who continue to ignore Obama's appalling lack of judgement, is poisonous for the country as a whole.
The good "Reverend" and his hateful racism has disgraced the religion he purports to represent and has doomed the Obama candidacy -- which is a shame...

Huh??? What in the world are you talking about? What "hateful racism" has rev. Wright displayed? Oh yeah, he criticized rich white Americans, and pointed out the differences between growing up black and growing up white. Posters like yourself need to get a clue, and actually listen to what he was talking about instead of building up strawmen predicated upon your own biases.
And furthermore, what is this nonsense that he is a disgrace to his religion? What about the KKK, or evangelical Christians like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Hagee and Dobson. And what about George Bush himself, a liar, a thief and a murderer.
You have a very limited perspective, which renders your analysis wholly incomplete and you "conclusions" highly questionable.

If "growing up black" means listening to a liar and a vulgarian like that, it's no wonder so many African-Americans lack hope.

No one said he had a monopoly on stupidity and the denigration of Christianity. Calling other people names does nothing to reduce the utter malignance of this fool. Why, he even had to borrow the "chickens coming home to roost" line from Malcolm X, who had more brains in his little finger than this foul-mouthed fool has in his whole sick mind. .

I have a perspective born of my utter desolation at what this fool -- and his mendacious defenders -- have done to the Obama candidacy. That you would stoop to defend a man whose life has been spent sowing hatred and whose foul mouth has mortally wounded the candidacy of America's first viable black candidate for the Presidency, says volumes about the nature and the quality of your opinons. You need to spend a little less time attacking others and a little more time considering what this absurd "religious" leader, who spends Christmas -- Christmas! -- spewing race-hate and wealth envy to the vulnerable and credulous member of his congregation, has done to a generation of black people and tp the chances of Obama winning any election where substantial numbers of thinking people are invovled.
