I would say that he didn't help the situation that for sure. But I wasn't just him. You can go back all the way to Reagan and work up to present. Remember, this current financial crisis is really culmination of over 20 years of bad economic policies promulgated by our president/houses/senates both Democrat and Republican. Not to mention society's own greed to inflate assets and portfolios. This current crisis are just the chickens coming home to roost.
you can start with FDR confiscating the gold if you really want to go back.
