McCain, not Obama, was right about Georgia :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Steve Huntley (http://www.suntimes.com/news/huntley/1102552,CST-EDT-hunt12.article - broken link)
Quote:
One who was up to speed on Georgia and the menace it faced from Russia was veteran Sen. John McCain. He had visited the Caucasian nation three times in a dozen years. When fighting erupted, the presumptive Republican presidential candidate got on the phone to gather details and issued a statement Friday summarizing the situation, tagging Russia as the aggressor and demanding it withdraw its forces from the sovereign territory of Georgia.
It took first-term Sen. Barack Obama three tries to get it right. Headed for a vacation in Hawaii, the presumed Democratic candidate for commander in chief issued an even-handed statement, urging restraint by both sides. Later Friday, he again called for mutual restraint but blamed Russia for the fighting. The next day his language finally caught up with toughness of McCain's.
The neocon agenda is based on the idea that America is always the good guy. We do not make mistakes. There's no such thing as unintended consequences. We must act to preserve our way of life. We will not be stopped from democratizing the world.
/Obama doesn't really differ on these issues. He just has different tactics (like bombing Pakistan) to carry out our desire to remain the only superpower.
"Obama's favored approach to international issues, diplomatic talks, failed to stop Russia's invasion."
The Whole World "failed to stop the invasion"....what's your point. Diplomacy is the key to end it, what would you have the US do, go in guns blazing?

US can't do much to stop determined Russia (broken link)
By ANNE GEARAN – 15 hours ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Russian Bear is back, and the United States doesn't seem to be able to do much about it.
"Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century," Bush said.
Despite the tough talk, the president's comments were not backed up by any specific threat of consequences Russia might face if it ignores the warning.
"If the stakes are high, you wouldn't have known it from Washington's early reaction. The President made cautious statements of condemnation over the weekend at the Olympic games in Beijing, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice remained on vacation, oddly absent from public view on an issue she had made her career on."
