President McCain would not have gotten us into a war as long as Russia did as he told them to!

I'm curious if he would have supported the diplomacy that is now in place.

Don't kid yourselves...Russia will do as Russia wants, and no one is going to stop them - not Obama, not McCain. GA is but a test. They want the old empire back, and then some. Bit by bit they'll take it, and the "bits" will be small, too small to go to war over. They'll take the territory not always by force, but through economic measures as well.. That entire region depends on Russia for oil. Wait until winter arrives and they cut off the heat to these fledgling democracies, former Soviet Republics. Unfortunately, the world is less united than it was when WWII took place, and has not learned the lessons of history.

He's posturing, playing armchair general. Armchair president. But it's a great opportunity to set himself out as the great warrior leader and he's exploiting it, and I dont blame him. Im irked that there's only silence from Obama. He'll have some 'splainin to do when he gets back.
Diplomacy isn't done by making speeches as exemplified by Sarkozy who is the one leading and brokering the deal. Diplomacy supported is diplomacy supported. Speeches about Nato and G-7 when unable to do anything about it are just that speeches. Many of the nations of Europe are letting Sarkozy take the lead and not paying much attention to the election rhetoric in the United States. Notice there is discussion of the European Union perhaps providing peace keeping forces. That leaves us out of the discussion and implementation of. Now can McCain reverse the current climate in Europe towards us? Are they heeding his call to get Georgia into Nato or are they ignoring him?

NATO caution on Ukraine, Georgia | csmonitor.com
The US, as well as several Central European members, favor Ukraine's and Georgia's request. But Germany, France, and other Western European members of NATO have misgivings. They don't want to antagonize oil-and-gas supplier Russia, which views NATO enlargement as a threat. Russia warns it will target nuclear missiles at Ukraine if it joins NATO.

Now does McCain have the right stuff and not the right rhetoric to win Western Europe over? I have asked that several times in threads. Will the people of Western Europe support their leaders if they move in lockstep with McCain and not Obama?
Something to ponder

Which sounds more like the successful path Sarkozy has gone down?
Barack Obama | Laurin Manning's Blog: Obama statement on conflict in Georgia

or the McCain Wiki speech on Georgia and his alarming followups? Which of the two potential future leaders sounds the most like the path Europe is going down? Is McCain seeking another go it alone war?

It's a chilling thought. And why isn't the rest of Europe running in to "save" their neighbor?
