Hopefully, we can all begin to tone down the rhetotic, stop the insults, place value on civility and raise the level of the debate. If we could see three out of four, I think that would be a good thing.
I tried to do it this past weekend. It worked for about 2 hours then it went back to the norm. Of course I did start the threads around 1am ET so that may not have helped :
I'll admit, I'm petty. But I'm p*ssed off and I want something to change. I hated the Bush administration, so many scandals, so many blunders, ugh..... and now, this is what we get? A Bush wannabe and a Christian extremist? And the race is this close??? I'm confused. I'm very confused.

I agree with you in principle, and with most of your points. However...
Why does one lose all credibility by using a candidate's full and proper name?
I don't really think anyone knows John McCain's middle name... or Palins, or Biden's for that fact. They use it because it sounds scary... don't be foolish.

Absolutely spot on Charley but I can't rep you for a while !
Raising the political debate a bit higher would not hurt but most people just like slinging mud at each other.
Politics are so important and have such an impact on our daily lives and our society and we devalue it by ignoring the actual issues and instead concentrating on the personalities of the candidates, name-calling and who is the most/least attractive etc..
It's pathetic and quite frankly a very dangerous way to deal with societal issues we should all be worried about. The economy, education , healthcare, immigration, foreign policies, the environment , all those issues need to be debated intelligently, clearly and in a civilised manner and so much is squandered by a reluctance to engage in a true intellectual discourse on those subjects.
I want my politicians to be intelligent, to have integrity, to be educated, well informed, and caring about those issues. I want politicians who can set aside petty differences to engage in real debates . Politicians who actually have an inkling about those issues and have a real plan of action on how to improve matters. Politicians who are not there to score points against their opponents and politicians who can see further than their noses.
People with vision, true planning and inspirational leadership without being smug or strident.
Enough with the bickering and childish behaviour. Time to grow up and behave like intelligent adults rather than petulant toddlers.
American elections to me always seem to turn into a circus and hysterical media frenzy which I do not understand. Voting is one of the most important duty of any citizen of a Democracy, a huge responsibility and one which many seem to regard lightly and treat like the"Oscars".
Voting is an amazing privilege and one should squander lightly because one candidate looks"hotter" than the other or makes prettier speeches.

Thanks for posting those links.....I missed those threads the first time around, and they were very insightful on many levels.
Thanks again!
Thanks. I admit I am a fan of drama but I am also a fan of information and wanted to see people actual opinions on the "issues".
I also hate the whole "look it up yourself" answer when someone talks about the candidates not mentioning the issues. If we are all supposed to look it up then why campaign (still haven't gotten real answer back for that one) if the answers we need are a few mouse clicks away?
