Very interesting interview tonight on Democracy Now about Paulson and his close connection with Goldman Sachs - before his current connection with old GW... Sort of like inviting a fox into the hen house...
More fear mongering, much like the Iraq War --- We need to do it NOW, right NOW or the sky will fall..Many folks are saying there ARE alternative solutions other than making the American public pay for the mess created by Paulson's own Wall Street buddies..

Very cogent argument. You've really lifted the debate here. Thanks.

""""We haven't heard hide nor hair of Sen. McCain in these negotiations," said Schumer, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee. "He has not been involved except for an occasional, unhelpful statement, sort of thrown from far away, and the last thing we need in these delicate negotiations is an injection of presidential politics.""""

Maybe cast a vote, does he know how to do that? Or does he need some advisers to help him?
Come on! He is closely in touch with what's happening and has already emphacised he's ready to go, if he's needed.. Instead of injecting politics into the major decision-making currently going on in DC he's decided to honor the schedule set up for the debates. No grand-standing - 'they can't make a decision without MY leadership' tactics..

I'm betting he'll be there Friday.

He'll go to DC, hammer out a deal, bring the reps on board, save the day and get a deal done, while obama calls in his "help".

Dick Morris; Brilliant!

Hey, I've got this bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you....or maybe you'd prefer a bridge that goes nowhere?

Heh. At least Obama is talking to Washington; that's all he can do. McCain hasn't been doing that much. Dodd, chairman of the senate banking committe said earlier tonight that he's heard from McCain exactly once during this.

WTF, if he wanted to "work" on it how come he hasn't been doing so for the last couple of months? Oh, that's right, the "fundamentals" were sound as of last week!

It's probably no more than 1 1/2 hour flight from DC to Ole Miss on the "straight talk distress". Plenty of time to do the deal and hop on a jet plane. While he's there maybe he can ask to reopen the vote on the new GI Bill!

"Hammer out a deal?" Are you talking about the financial crisis?!

Um....

that is a severe Rambo fantasy.

It's not a "hammer out a deal" type thing....

That's the "Hail Mary Pass" Barney Frank referred to. Trouble is that a campaign willing to take such extreme measures to avoid debates\ improve polling numbers\ etc is quite obviously desperate - Americans aren't blind!
